Merry Christmas and Happy Holy Days from Josephus

There are two threads on this blog currently; the fictionalized autobiography of Nerva Josephus, and the organic open source review of the past 3,000 years of world history, with an emphasis on the Mediterranean (Middle Earth) royal family. And so we continue with Josephus...

December 25th; Celebration of the Light

It doesn't bother me that my this historically pagan celebration has been re-invented as the birthday of my father. My understanding was that dad was born on January 6th but some say January 7th; in any case Jeshua Aristobulus personified Living Light so December 25th is an excellent choice as a date for this wonderful remembrance event and symbolic festivities. I don't appreciate the fringe that wants the cross to represent everything, so those celebrating birth and life are fellow travelers.

Rashnu and Sraosha will not always be waiting, for a New Kingdom will arise that cleanses as it heals. The Eye of Horus will not always be crying, for the Great Grandson of the King inspires and unifies and Lights up the Path.

On Convincing Vespasian of His Kingship

At a time when Israel and Judea were in turmoil and Rome felt threatened from several angles, I was falsely imprisoned for being treasonous to the Empire. Though it was true that in my youth I led many a brigade in defense of Galilee, this was widely known and never held against me during the peace talks. To be accused of being a double agent was shocking to me, so I appealed directly to Vespasian's sense of self-worth and destiny.

I was brought before Vespasian, his son Titus (my 2nd cousin from my dad's side), and two friends of Titus. My only hope for survival meant looking beyond Nero's deepening travesty in Rome. I waxed as eloquently as I could:

Uncle Vespasian, you have the House of Aristobulus in your captivity but how long can Nero fiddle? You and your son here are each destined to lead the Empire, to restore Her Glory and bring peace and prosperity to many a nation. If the Descendants of Mariamme Unite, nobody can stop us. I have already prepared a route to Egypt for you, and from there you will arrive in Rome as a Champion.

A friend of Titus who was mental muscle (the other was brawn...) asked why I had not been able to predict the fall of Jotapata and my own imprisonment, and I quickly countered that I had indeed prophesied both of these events. Vespasian knew me from birth, and waved off the thug.

He leaned in close to my ear, and almost whispered: "What happens when I get to Egypt"

Dad's Early Days; Mom and Jahn (by Josephus)

My father is Jeshuah Mathias, the first and the thirteenth, and though he is celebrated far and wide, his life was not a bed of roses and little is written of the years between his Bar Mitzvah and his ascendancy.

In dad's early teens, my grandfather Herod Polli Joseph divorced my grandmother to marry Princess Berniece, and this came as a big surprise to my father. In his mid-teen years, Mariamne was living in Rome with James and Ruth (Tamara stayed on with Jesh in Galilee), and the separation from his mother and younger siblings was excruciatingly painful for my dad.

He responded with a certain amount of rebelliousness, and his followers were legion in the Temple and on the streets, everywhere truth be sought my father's name was on people's lips. He was said to be the greatest Aristobulus of all time, and by many in The Way, even the Mesiach...

Pilate was in his final Jeru years in those days, and my dad and his sisters and brothers were around to keep things clean. On at least three occasions they had many people ready to lay down on the streets. One time they actually carried through with it, when Pilate was complicit in a ridiculous Roman blasphemy, and all of Jerusalem's major roadways were blocked by twelve thousand peaceful protesters.

Even before he left for the University of Alexandria, hopes and expectations of some in Galilee and Jerusalem were hugely unreachable. People were believing Aristobulus would unite all Judaic faithful and overthrow the Roman occupiers, but even at a young age my father was promoting Inity among all humanikind, not just among Jews and Romans.

Some Orthodox elements questioned his pedigree, while others celebrated it. Radicals challenged his passion, and conservatives thought him hot headed and self-righteous. His family was concerned about some of the blokes he was hanging with, and when people gathered to hear him teach, spies and Romans were never far away.

As his own arranged marriage to Princess Drusilla was never intended (by those in power, anyway) to be anything other than a preparation for later life, its rapid dissolution wouldn't have been so bothersome except for the fact that he was also despondent over my mom's first marriage, to the Baptist. The fateful hand of Rome and Jah would bring that to its course, but there was a time of agony and separation on both sides of the divide.

Take this social situation and internal pressure and dash in the highest of expectations for his own life, and you can see how my dad was truly purified by fire.

My Mother was a modern ShlomZion, by Josephus

Even before my parents were married, everyone knew that my mom deserved to be with dad and that he was the only Prince worthy of the Scarlet Princess. Though my father was grafted onto the line of Aristobulus through his adoption by Herod of Chalcis, my mother is a daughter of Herodias whose own father was indeed Aristobulus, son of Herod.

It is rightful that my grandmother will always be known as Sacred Mary, Mother of Our Lord, yet it is a true thing that my own mother's powerful greatness and abundance of writings are being separated into elements of Mary and the writings of Johan. Our parents were ahead of their time...

May Peace be with You All

A Roman Dream, A Personal Lament

For the Roman Empire I hope for a future of peace, prosperity and joyfulness in the lands. May the man most suitable to lead the people rise through his abilities to do so. May we follow the desires of our parents and not revert to greedy leadership that considers only the benefits for themselves and their relatives.

For my family and those of faith I hope that this rift between the Believers can be repaired and that the followers of Jeshua will stand side by side with the children of Moses and Allah to build a better world for all humanikind.

Regarding My Brother, Justus of Tiberias

Don't you be acting so innocent, it's not like we didn't leave you lots of clues. Why do you think we argued over the royal jewels in Tiberias, during a time of great peril, and who else would have the foresight and wisdom to challenge my view of things? The only quibble I have with my brother is that I rarely saw him in the decade before his book came out, and most of the places where he contradicts my work are really in the eye of the beholder. While it's true that mom and I went more fully over to the Roman side than he did, the fanatics who killed our father were also destroying Jerusalem and the nation. Besides, our mediation, and negotiation of several key peace treaties, saved tens of thousands of lives and much livestock, acreage and orchards. Where the Romans found greatest resistance, they laid land to waste...

In the beginning my brother and I were as close as could be, far closer to each other than to Tim. Justus looked up to me, and I always found him to be brilliant and funny, and a joy to be around. I remember the first time I took him to Briton, that summer was great fun and fishing was splendid. Between family trips and individual excursions with dad, mom, myself, brother Tim and uncles Paul and James, Justus had seen much of the Empire before turning fifteen.

The fact that he shared my father's burden of being the designated Messiach was not something to be taken lightly, and I knew in the grander scheme of things that as the Joseph, I would be his tutor. Some may now believe that the pupil can give the master a lesson, and from a Judaic perspective my brother has been a pure beacon, respected by the Way, the Essenes, the Mandeans, the Saabans and most loved indeed by the Armenians and the Greeks, who also loved our dad so dearly. I am honoured that Justus worked hard to maintain a permanent Hebrew scripture school in Tiberias, in the first house he bought there, and the second has become a meeting place for The Way.

There was a time when people claimed that my father Aristobulus and my mother salome would never attain power, but he became the true King of the Jews, as Agrippa was always a Roman puppet, and he and my mom were honoured for their peacemaking in many, many lands, Justus and I are fortunate to carry forth these traditions, and re govern Rome and Armenia with pureness of heart and gldness of soul.

Early Days in Galilee; Josephus recalls his childhood

There was always a lot of fanfare around my older brother Herod Timothy because of his adoption by Agrippa the Younger, but my brother and I had our share of opportunity and blessings.

My first given name was Agrippa Josephus Aristobulus (often called Yuya by my folks); my little brother Jeshua Justus Aristobulus was the third son born to Ari and Salome, at least by the official story. The inner core let people believe that the first son was from Philip Jahn...few knew the full story.

It was customary for royal women of this era to have their first child out of wedlock or with an arranged husband, as this was one way to ensure a multiplicity of regal, in this case Herodian / Maccabean, bloodlines. Regardless, I was there; Herod Timothy was raised as if he were Ari’s own son, and he was my true brother unto his untimely death.

My dad had been adopted at a relatively young age, and he was a toddler when his mother married Prince Joseph Polli (later King Herod of Chalcis), so he knew how important family would be to Tim’s life and career. When my brother Timothy was appointed Crown Prince at nine years old by being officially adopted by Prince Agrippa, he still lived wth Us and was generally treated no differently than Justus and myself.

To all observers and to themselves, Ari and Salome had three sons, and together with our sisters we were a tight family for over two decades. My aunt Berenice often took Tim to Jerusalem, and sometimes myself or Justus got to go, with her or with mom and dad.

If you have read otherwise just disregard the nonsense for Tim was my brother and one of the most devout disciples of the Way, and carried on his father's teachings in a most respectable and straightforward manner. As much as anyone, Timothy’s allegiance was always to our dad Aristobulus, and later, to brothers James and Paul and the community that followed Jeshua's creed of healing, sharing, peace, freedom and equality.

Ari Loves Sal; A short story based on Jesus and Mary Magdalene

Ari Loves Sal

A glimpse into the lives of Jesus and Mary Magdelene

Excerpted from The First Messiah

By Yuya Joseph

The First Part

Not long after arrival at the home and gardens of Antonia, the Agrippa family palace, Herod Joseph noticed that young Aristobulus was not to be seen among his extended kin. He enquired around the house, as there were several apartments where kids and their families were playing, in addition to the main quarters, and at first nobody knew of his son’s whereabouts, and deep concern began to show on Joe’s face. His wife Mariamne and others also noticed that their son Ari Jesh was not among the revelers, and different people had begun enquiring about his presence.

A disappointed and upset though still radiantly beautiful young Salome turned to a family member at the gathering and enquired, “I thought that cousin Aristobulus was going to be here; he is the only reason I wanted to come to this place today. Where is he?”

She was the daughter of Herodias and had just turned fourteen years of age, and cousin Ari no longer seemed like a young boy to her, he was now sophisticated and insightful. Her uncle, Herod Joseph of Chalcis, had been raising him since he was a toddler, and loving him and teaching him as if he were his very soul. He wasn’t even a teenager yet, but he was already her best friend ever, and it bothered her that he was not here where she expected him to be.

Salome was to remember this day for all of her life, and though Jesh thought of it fondly, Sal considered it the beginning of a downward trend that kept her away from Ari Jesh for long periods of time. She felt it marked the beginning of something she would have to heal from and overcome, that feeling of being so freaking alone that you imagine that everything you have ever done has been wrong. Her heart told her things would be okay, but her mind raced with despair at all the news of the troubles.

During her unhappy first marriage, she thought of this day and how she would someday marry the boy prophet, for very few had ever said Jahn Philip was the Messiah or the Anointed One, and even those were mostly unreliable, excepting the Mandeans whose devotion has in time been proven farsighted, essentially solidifying the role of Baptism in the emerging faith. James also had his followers but when people referred to Jeshua as the Messiah or the Anointed, nobody ever seemed to say a word against him, and everyone proclaimed his goodness and worthiness. Was She also not the Holy Princess of Judea, deserving of a Righteous King and all of Israel? Surely her destiny was not to be designated a half portion and an old man that only extremists still openly supported. Her mother Herodias would soon marry Herod Antipas, changing the course of history, but all this would come later.

Mariamne believed, as did many others, that her son Ari Jeshu’s purpose on earth was to be a Saviour of the Judaic People, the long-awaited Anointed One. When he grew into the premier Teacher in the country and people told her that he could even bring peace to all nations, that he was a Messiah to many Greeks, and Egyptians and Syrians also, she was not the type to limit his aspirations and range. Their reported later disputes in Galilee only reflected her concerns for his safety.

Although there was one particularly rough patch during Ari’s late teens, Mariamne IV was not the first queen (nor the last) to have major problems with the royal men in her life. The sometimes heartless, sometimes shoddy treatment of his mother, the Woman by the Well, was likely a factor in Ari Jesh’s own fervent commitment to the sanctity of marriage, and also to his overwhelming devotion to Salome and their children. He knew of the sacrifices women had to make in their lives, and his mom and his wife were each examples, for Salome had been forced to marry while still young, for the “good of the people,” and his mom had been divorced against her wishes, more than once. He believed deeply in the equality of all human beings, and the strong men and women who formed him in his childhood and adolescence became the builders of a great and growing nation.

Salome was also exceedingly popular, for everyone who knew her loved her, and when some called her Salome Mariamne, it wasn’t always just a reference to her own heritage, for the holy mantle came from her mother-in-law also. They were both ladies of the highest stature, Carriers of the Covenant, and the Virgin Mother Maryam role was later for Salome of the Tower to shoulder almost entirely on her own, and the Beloved One would prove to do a miraculous job.

These were the most difficult years in Jeshua’s life. In his early to mid-teens, the separation from his mother and younger siblings was excruciatingly painful, while in his later teens the expectations of some in Galilee and Jerusalem were hugely unreachable. People were anticipating Jesh would unite all Jews and overthrow the Romans, but he was more concerned with uniting Jews and Romans, and indeed all humanity. Purists questioned his pedigree, radicals challenged his passion, his family was concerned about some of the company he was keeping, and authorities were always quick to enquire what the large gatherings were about. Couple this social pressure with his deep disappointment in Salome’s betrothal to Philip Jahn, and you can see how the emotions would build.

One time when Sal was nineteen and Jesh was seventeen, the Roman soldiers were parading torch-lit images of the Emperor through the streets of Jerusalem, and Salome and Ari Jesh were among a group of youthful leaders who organized a non-violent sit-down in the street. Everyone proceeded to lay down, blocking the path of Procurator Pontius Pilate and other officials, who eventually agreed to have the processions stopped permanently.

At eighteen Jesh still led prayer and study groups in Jerusalem, and contributed to the Temple in many ways, but was increasingly drawn to the universalist teachings of the Way, and before his twentieth birthday his thinking and philosophy were already international in scope.

Hashmonein, Levantine, Persian, Ethiopian and other strains of Judaic royalty and divinity were prevalent in the highly learned city of Alexandria along the Egyptian coast, and when it came time for more advanced schooling, Ari Jesh was able to stay with family while attending University there. Recent years had seen personal disappointments, including being separated from his mother, and then seeing her be hurt again, and also witnessing his sweetheart and future wife enduring a marriage of scriptural convenience.

One year when she was able to stay with Jesh for a longer period, Mariamne even traveled up the Nile with him, to visit and worship at the ancient temples. At Thebes they met with some of the Ethiopian royal family, including two sons of the Queen that were each on a pilgrimage to the same festival. A local scholar translated some artworks on the wall in one of the older temples, relating stories of Queens Hatshepsut and Amenirdis, and Ari Jesh found it to be a particularly illuminating moment, though in the depths of his heart, it just made him ache all the more for Salome.

The Ethiopians fascinated their hosts and the other guests with vivid recollections of Sol-Amen’s achievements and Musa’s great life, for they each had Ethiopian wives and their tremendous human legacies were known in the hills and the valleys from Napata and Meroe to Axum, as they would continue to be for centuries and unto this day in Mekele, Lalibela, and Addis Ababa.

Mariamne and Aristobulus were treated as a Queen and a Prince of God’s Own Court, and all as true cousins in Jah Light embraced them heartily. Mother Mari and Her Son were astounded at the reception they received, and at the Ethiopians profound knowledge of Jerusalem, Her wisdom and Her blessings.

It was only a brief encounter, but those hours would stay with Jesh forever. He had read much of Ethiopia and had met Ethiopians at school, and was deeply honored to have spent time with distant cousins of the Southern Temple. These Holy Brethren were also sons and daughters of Musa and Sol-Amen and David and Abraham. Ari Jesh was himself becoming the Lamb of Israel, and here he had spoken and dined with the veritable Lions of Judah by the Nile. He had a vision that the world would one day be united again, not through power or force, but rather through spirit and goodwill. He knew that He was living in the early days, but was also confident that the hour of the teachings would arrive unexpectedly.

It was a most satisfying journey, and Ari’s deep love and profound respect for all of humanity became more rooted, and for all of his life he was to treasure these inspiring moments. Floating along the big river, coming home from this trip, conversing on a smooth sailing boat during a clear star-lit night, Mariamne had some news that would liven up Jeshua’s heart. “Salome sent a message for you, and you will be happy to hear it,” smiled Mom Mariamne.

“You waited all these hours to tell me this?” asked an inquisitive looking, partly shocked Ari.

“Yes my son, I didn’t want you thinking of her all the time, though you know I love her like a daughter.” Mariamne continued with the good news. “She will be here in eleven days, and she will be able to spend some time with you. Salome said to meet her just south of Giza, where the roads intersect below the pyramids, at noon the day after Sabbath next. You can see that junction from the Strangler statue … I am telling you both to wear Egyptian clothing, and be certain you are not being followed.”

“I can’t believe what you are telling me, I have been receiving her letters but I haven’t seen Salome in over two years.” Jesh continued, “Thanks, mom, this has been the best week ever.”

« Well, don’t think I can’t see the aching hurt in your eyes and hear the longing in your voice when you speak of her, » spoke Mary softly, and at that the two of them watched the shores of Hermopolis and Akhetaten flow by.

Ari studied under and broke bread with Philo and other masters, and often conversed with the well-regarded (at the time) Tiberius Julius Alexander when he was home visiting family. It was a milieu of learning, respect and culture, and most believed that it was here that Aristobulus grew from being a sometimes-awkward adolescent into a powerful, vibrant young man. Vespasian also stayed at the country palace, and after he married Jesh’s sister Polla, the two of them would laugh over some good times they had there as young men.

On an occasion less than a year after returning from Alexandria, more than a few thousand had followed Jeshua and his disciples out into the desert, for a period of fasting and prayer. A Roman garrison had seen the men gathering on the edge of Jerusalem before their journey into the desert, and a bystander had been heard referring to them as God’s Army. The story was retold within the garrison and soon there was speculation that an attack on the Holy City, or on Roman strongholds, was being planned.

After a day, the Roman soldiers went into the desert and slew scores of followers, injuring hundreds more and scattering all to their own homes and hiding places. Jesh and his closest brethren all got away on horseback, but were devastated at the loss of precious life, and the brutal reaction of the soldiers to their gathering. When local officials got word that their military camp had attacked a prayer session led by a Herodian prince, they were fearful of Rome’s reaction and so they sent word that they had put down a revolt provoked by an Egyptian false prophet, and nothing more was heard of the matter.

At the Mount Gerizim festival in Samaria, everything had gone more smoothly for Ari and the core followers of the Way. The final third of the teachings were being relayed, one line at a time, from the front to the back of the crowd by a chorus of seven, which would repeat each line of Ari Jesh’s in unison. They were standing about thirty meters deep into the natural amphitheatre, which elevated slightly after an initial drop-off.

Blessed are those who come in peace

Blessed are those who believe in the great knower of unseen things

Blessed are those who do unto others as they wish upon themselves

Blessed are they that mourn this troubled world, for they shall be comforted

Blessed are the Children, for they speak the truth before God and before man

Blessed are the meek and the humble, for they shall inherit the earth

Blessed are the Women, for they give life and nurture souls

Blessed are the Chosen, for they stay close to the Way

The Sermon finished with a chorus of Hallelujah’s and the crowd began slowly and peacefully disbursing, though many stayed behind for healing and counsel. Ari Jeshua was serene, content, and finally feeling that there were many who were taking his message to heart. Seven double lines formed, and the fourteen leaders and elders of the Way were asked for healing and forgiveness and guidance and Light, in fourteen orderly streams.

Jesh had taught his close followers a range of healing techniques, such as relieving depression with vigorous massage beneath and around the shoulder blades, or gentle relaxing of the sinus and temple regions to alleviate forehead pain, or the neck and upper shoulders for general pain relief and release of Chi, plus many other restorative methods, and families far and wide were able to benefit from the brothers and sisters of the Way. When a caregiver was present with the sick or injured, the healing and guidance was provided for both, so spirit and methodology carried on and spread out. A lot can be accomplished with human touch, pure water and sunlight. Throw in a few berries and some pomegranate kernels and it’s a magic moment.

Prince Ari was busy with teaching and healing, and Princess Sal was beginning to attend Way meetings in Jerusalem, so messages were passed through friends and relatives. Salome’s husband was quite busy with business and royal matters, and her mind was often on the wider community she was symbolic of. Salome’s mother Herodias and Ari’s mom Mariamne could both see the advantages of their children uniting, fully believing the entire nation would benefit from such a pairing. Though Salome was still married to Philip Jahn the Baptist, their wishes would require mere months to reach fulfillment.

Princess Salome remained in her marriage to the wild yet holy man Jahn Philip, but corresponded with Jesh while he was in Egypt. Her letters were by far his favorites, for she wrote deeply layered missives, and positioned herself firmly as his eternal, equal partner. It was like Ethiopian qene poetry, just peel through some layers of wax and there shone gold and pearls of wisdom. At first it seemed like they would never be together, whereas now it appeared that it may be only three or five or seven years at the most, maybe sooner by her calculations, yet nobody could really be sure. She had contemplated divorce, but it could only work if it didn’t result in embarrassment for herself and Jeshua, yet finally patience would work in her favour. At a point of desperation in his own quest for kingship, hubby Jahn Philip reached for power that he thought was there but it disappeared before his eyes and he was called off to Rome and dethroned. The unexpected early death of Herod Jahn Philip meant that in less time than expected, Ari and Sal would indeed be united.

When first told of Herod Philip’s request to marry Salome, Herodias was said to have commented that she would “rather have his head on a platter than let him marry her” daughter. Whether or not she actually said the words, the supposed remark would live on to haunt her in life and in memory.

As per prophecy, Aristobulus was the new Joshua, with a minor of Elisha, and his life was to be patterned primarily after the main two previous Holy Joshua’s, or Saviours The trail was blazed as early as the twelfth and eighteenth dynasties, and the legend of the mesach had a new urgency and an incredibly worldly resonance. In time He would grow comfortably into the role, and became the Crown Prince of Israel, then the King of the Jews, even taking on the role of Joseph as dad to Jeshua Justus Aristobulus and the other youth, and finally leaving His mark as the Messiah of the new Way, a true prophet of peace and equality.

Our royal daughter, Princess Salome, herself of the highest Maccabeean and Herodian strains, was two years older than Ari, and was raised primarily in Jerusalem. Her regal heritage was unassailable, with her father being Herod Philip the Tetrarch, and her mother the internationally known Herodias, daughter of Aristobulus IV and matriarch Berenice. She was destined to be married two times; first to Prince Jahn Herod, Philip II, whom history and scripture remember as the Baptist, an arranged marriage designed as fulfillment of prophecy, then later unifying all of Israel by marrying Jesus Aristobulus and bringing forth sons to carry on the Covenant.

Aristobulus and Salome, excerpt from 2nd draft of new Yuya book

Herod Joseph and Mariamne IV and their twelve-year old son Aristobulus Jeshua, entered the Jeru Temple for devotional worship, and also for the purpose of inspecting the premises. In addition to being responsible for the governance of the northern territories, Joseph was custodian of the Temple, and ensuring for the fullness of the tradition and the sanctity of the Holy of Holies fell to him. He considered this the highest aspect of his office, and those who knew him believed that he was wholly devoted to his most sacred duty. He was the father of the one who was known as the wonderful counselor, and the depth of his duties always astonished even his own soul.

This fatherly example of stewardship of the Temple would mark Aristobulus with a similarly protective streak, which would flare up when corruption seeped in almost three decades later. Constant threats to the Temple got the young Ari thinking about a more decentralized faith, where the kingdom would be in the hearts of the followers, and the places of worship would be wherever the Chosen found themselves. He had these dreams from a youthful age, but as he was still wholly devoted to his father and the Temple, he shared them only with his mother.

The arriving party was greeted by Caiaphas, High Priest of Judea who had been appointed by Valerius Gratus, together with senior Rabbis and other officials of the Temple, and their assistants. Caiaphas had performed the duties of High Priest for nearly a decade and the subjects of his retirement and of his successor were on the minds of many. It was the tradition for this post to be appointed by the northern king, and Caiaphas, knowing full well his days as High Priest, and his days on this very earth, were numbered, asked Herod Joseph if he may be allowed to offer advice on the succession.

Joseph responded positively, replying, “My mind is still open. It would be of great value to hear your thoughts.”

Caiaphas was nodding appreciatively and told him “Two of the worthiest candidates will be at today’s briefing.”

During the tour Herod and family were shown the current status of the areas of teaching, of prayer, of sacrificial offerings and of communal cooking and eating. Ari liked to look into the corners, and out the windows, and perused almost every book he came across. At one point he went through a doorway and started into an attached dwelling, but was quickly advised to return to the main room. The living quarters of the Rabbis and Temple workers were not included on this visit.

At the end of this quiet tour, each of the royals took time to pray, in the chapel adjoining the Holy of Holies. Herod waited outside the chapel for Ari, and together they walked back to the main hall.

There followed a briefing in the council room, where Herod of Chalcis (with Aristobulus listening attentively) was apprised of events and developments regarding the various competing factions within Judaism, and the encroaching influences on the perimeter of the Holy Land. Regarding Jerusalem, all the discussion focused on Pharisees, Sadducees, Zealots, and Essenes. Considering the Judaic Holy Lands and the frontiers, Samaritans, Philistines, Idumeans all were worthy of inclusion.

In addition to Ari and his father and two of his father’s advisors, others present at the meeting included High Priest Caiaphas, Jonathan ben Ananias, Theophilus ben Ananias, and the noted scribe and teacher Gamaliel, a grandson of Hillel.

Caiaphas opened with a general update. “The Pharisees and Sadducees have agreed to work together on most matters. The Essenes are occasionally held in suspicion by the Romans, but they are nearly always cleared of charges, and for the most part deserve their lofty reputation.”

“Certain of the rural families, however, have hooked up with the Zealots, and rumblings of rebellion are heard in the hills and in the towns, from Shechem to Jericho, Hebron to Rafah. Some of them want to be rid of the Romans, others would like to see you and I go as well.”

He had been looking directly into the face of Herod of Chalcis, then slowly turned his gaze to Aristobulus, and then to Gamaliel.

Gamaliel in in turn began to speak. “ We can tolerate Roman rule, our leaders work with Romans at the highest levels. What would become of Us if the region were to fall into the wrong hands … the enemy within is as dangerous to us as those along our borders. I think we need to get some more food stored in and near Jerusalem.”

Jonathan ben Ananias was nodding agreement, and added his own commentary. “Our people have been battered by persecution and famine, yet the resilience is powerful. Storing food is vital for the near term, but I know we can all agree that growing food is how we can improve our own lives over the medium to longer term.” Aristobulus shot him a knowing glance, the youngster wondering if Jonathan has somehow learned about the seeds Ari was carrying in his pockets.

Relations with Egyptians, Syrians, Greeks and Romans were all included in the report, with the developing situations in Alexandria, Tiberias and Caesarea discussed more specifically, together with Roman attitudes to each of the jurisdictions. At the end of this relatively brief yet crucial meeting, the royals got up and joined with a larger group of people waiting in the communal eating room nearby.

Many cousins and officials, from Hashmonein, Levite, Davidic and Herodian streams, journeyed from all over Israel and Judea, traveling to the Temple to honour and meet with the royals. There were more than four dozen guests, of which about half were relatives and half were officialdom, and they gathered together in the kitchen / dining area while Ari Jesh and his family were touring the buildings and praying, and were elated to now see them entering the room. There was a measure of festivity in the air, a quiet yet confident celebration of the eternally divine, the shared LORD who moves with history, and provides guidance to the Chosen People.

Everyone gathered in the large dining area, and Jesh got speaking with two youthful Rabbis about interpretations of Holy Scripture. These men were both fully willing to hear young Ari out, but it was true that there were others, the elder teachers, who were waiting to speak to this prodigious soul. When they told him that Hillel had requested a get-together, Ari Jesh immediately followed the resident Rabbis into the council meeting room, not noticing that at that same moment his family had been leaving to continue eating and conversing at the Agrippa home a few blocks away, the mansion on a hill overlooking the City.

The quieter of the two Rabbis broke the silence, speaking quietly in Jeshua’s direction. “The Teacher has requested a personal meeting with you, if your time permits today.”

Jeshua spoke directly and immediately. “This is perfect, as I was just waiting for the right moment to ask you brothers if it would be possible for myself to reason with the Master.”

The two men and the lad left the room and along the hallway enroute to the chambers Hillel appeared out of a side doorway, and a smile came across the old man’s face. He extended his hand, and young Ari Jeshua took it into his own, and slowly walked beside the grand master until each took their seat at the table in the main council room.

A frail and elderly Hillel sat at the head of the table, with his grandson Gamaliel at his left hand, and young Aristobulus at his right. Hillel formed the Holy Triangle with his fingers on the table in front of him, and began speaking slowly.

“Messiah, I am old and have taught many men in my time. My wisdom and knowledge remains sound, yet my years are numbered and I feel my teachings may be losing some of their fluidity. I want you to benefit from my guidance while you can, and realize that much of my philosophy and insight has already been written down, with more to come. Your parents have set you on a righteous path; know always that the Rabbis are here to help you, to work with you.”

“These men before you will carry on the teachings, and guide you upon your way, especially my grandson here Gamaliel, whom I have appointed as your personal tutor. Questions of Providence, of Justice, and of Scriptural interpretation may be brought to him.”

Jesh was appreciative, yet already had business on his mind. “Thank you my Lord. You are speaking of my destiny, and I honour your respect and acknowledgements. I am privileged to meet with you and to speak with you and to have access to God’s learned and wise souls within these Holy walls. I will forever remember this day and do my best not to disappoint yourselves or Our Father in the months and years to come.”

“Let us use our time together here today to discuss the state of teaching in Israel and Judea, and if I may be permitted to say so, we should also take it upon ourselves to analyze the even more important subject of the general conditions Our people have been living in. A man hears little and learns even less when his stomach is growling louder than the teacher is speaking.”

The Rabbis looked at each other in astonishment and the room fell silent. Hillel smiled, and then he chuckled out loud. He gestured to Gamaliel to respond, which he did. “We had heard that you are a seeker of Truth, and that you take your Chosen status and that of Our people quite seriously, so fine, tell us what is going on out there, and what if anything we may be able to do for the benefit of Israel and Judea. We also know of the troubles, but have been at a loss when trying to settle on a strategy to improve the welfare of all.”

Young Jeshua Aristobulus spoke with the men about Jeru and Shiloh, about Jericho and Caesarea, about Alexandria and Rome. What he knew best was Galilee, Nazareth, Tiberias and Caesarea Philippi. For news of locales further away, he often had to rely on second and third-hand sources. It wasn’t just that he seemed more in tune with the pulse of the people than those in the Temple, but he seemed to be one of them.

They were impressed at his ability to perceive the essence of the matters at hand, and his knowledge of scriptural meanings was astounding to the elders. Ari told them about towns where the synagogue was crowded and needed more land, such as Caesarea, and other places where the house of worship had plenty of available land that could be used to build housing and farms.

He knew which libraries needed repairs, and which needed books. He pointed out which classrooms required more chairs and tables, and which schools needed more teachers. It was not a complete report of the nation, more like an analysis of Galilee, Qumran and a few other centers, but it was an astoundingly perceptive summary. When they asked him how a boy of twelve could come across such knowledge, he replied that he was fortunate to have cousins throughout the region, and that his father’s employees were keeping him regularly informed about places of learning, and of worship. The utterance of this last word made a couple of the Rabbis feel uneasy, for how or why would a twelve-year old be monitoring the houses of faith?

Ari made no mention of his own mission or status, and spoke only of the difficult life facing many who wish to study and continue the teachings. He also pleaded for the farmers to be given lenience and support, for many had resorted to eating seed during the preceding years of famine. They were now subsisting poorly, yet most needed only a helping hand to surely thrive again, and restore bounty to the marketplace.

Young Jeshua pulled out several different, overly large seed grains, and set them on the table. “These are from the days when Salome and the Pharisees ruled peacefully together. Our farms brought forth cartloads of the biggest ears of corn and sheaves of barley that any men had ever seen. I have brought these only to illustrate our collective sin, and to show that this is not the way it always has to be.”

Again the room fell silent, and as the seeds were passed around the table, one of the men bowed his head, while another put his hands together to pray. Rarely had they been met with the folly of sin in such a forceful way, and the lesson drove deep into their hearts and souls.

Ari then asked for resolution, speaking softly yet forcefully. “I am requesting that two of the hardest-hit regions, Hebron and Shechem, be provided with allocations of seed and tools, for this is all that is truly required to get the lives moving again.”

Gamaliel looked briefly to Hillel, but was basically unhesitant in his response. “We will send relief, and soon, to both of these areas.”

Not long after arrival at the home and gardens of the Agrippa family palace across town, Herod Joseph noticed that young Aristobulus was not to be seen among his extended family. He enquired around the house, and at first nobody knew of his whereabouts, and deep concern began to show on his face. His mother Mariamne and others also noticed that Ari Jesh was not among the revelers, and people had begun enquiring of his whereabouts.

A disappointed and upset, though still radiantly beautiful, young Salome turned to a family member at the gathering and enquired, “I thought that cousin Aristobulus was going to be here; he is the only reason I wanted to come to this place today. Where is he?”

She was fourteen years of age, and cousin Ari no longer seemed like a young boy to her, he was now sophisticated and insightful. Her uncle, Herod of Chalcis, had been raising him since he was a toddler, and loving him and teaching him as if he were his very soul.

During her unhappy first marriage, she thought of this day and how she would someday marry the boy prophet, for very few had ever said Jahn Philip was the Messiah or the Annointed One, and even those few that said it were not considered reliable. When people referred to Jeshua as the Messiah or the Anointed, nobody ever seemed to say a word against him, and everyone proclaimed his goodness and worthiness. Was She also not the Holy Princess of Judaea, deserving of a Righteous King and all of Israel? Surely her destiny was not to be designated a half portion and an old man that only extremists still openly supported. Her mother Herodias would marry King Agrippa, changing the course of history, but all this would come much later.

Just as casual worry started to build into mounting familial concern, a latecomer to the gathering mentioned he had seen young Ari talking with Hillel and Gamaliel back at the Temple, to which Herod replied, “This is not a joke. You swear you saw my son just now with Hillel and Gamaliel inside the Temple?”

“Yes, my Lord, I swear that it was only a short time ago when I saw them walk into the council meeting room; it was onlyminutes before you yourself left the building, I am sure they dhould be finishing their discussion soon. I shall go and wait for him and then bring him here; shall I?”

Mariamne was told that he was safe, and everyone was content that the young Prince Jeshua Aristobulus was in the best possible place he could be, and they all expected the lad to join the party at any moment. Herod of Chalcis spent much of the time conversing with Bernice, and this had not gone unnoticed by the old and the young. She had grown into an intelligent, attractive young lady, and Herod Joseph was smitten with her charms.

Three and a half hours later Ari Jesh was still not there, and his family returned to the Temple to find him just leaving the council chambers, walking and still chatting with Gamaliel and the same two Rabbis who originally spoke with him in the dining room. The guard who had been waiting outside the door for him now walked slowly behind, still not wanting to interrupt what to him seemed to be dialogue of enormous import.

Moses went into the cloud
And ascended the mountain,
Moses was on the mountain
Forty days and forty nights

He told Him everything He had done
At the time for summoning
And the LORD said to Moses,
Speak to the children of Israel

Do not show favouritism in judgement
Hear the small along with the great
Do not be afraid of anyone
For judgement belongs to God
Do not take a bribe

Fear not, stand firm and you will
See the deliverance of the LORD
That He will achieve for you today

Have faith in freedom and democracy
For Peace and Justice will follow
Hundreds of millions died for these ideals
In the Name of the LORD
Their lives were not in vain

Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt
Shall each provide land to a secular nation,
Israel and Palestine, Lion and Lamb
This the spirit of the Damascus Document

When Jeshua walked on Earth
He Taught mainly in parables
When He anoints, look hard for the lesson
In Adam and Eve and Noah and sons

Adam is Man in the image of YHWH
Not just a two-legged creature
that walked all around
While Noah works today at the university
Building his Arc for My critters to stay

Jesus is Man in the image of YHSWH
Adam with heart with strength and with courage
Teeth that do shine from Truth passing over
Now ye are ready for a lesson of man

Tafari Inafrica shall have no army
For the defense of the Garden

Specifically and entirely for peacekeeping
In the way of the LORD, the mission of Ras Tafari
The Supreme Word of Jeshua

Him you shall see
You shall see Him in good health
Before your death
Unto your eyes He will appear

For I and I know
That what is revealed
Is all that is seen
and all that will be

By the power of Melchizedek
Dominion on Earth shall pass from Belial
To the Righteous Sons of Light

Congegration of the Sons of Righteousness,
Heed the message of Jah Ras Tafari, His Majesty
Emperor Haile Sellassie I, Defender of Unity,
Of Jeshua and Man

Ethiopians, Judeans and Palestinians
You share DNA that is absent from others
Ye are the people of the God of History
With great power comes great responsibility

Jah traced out a city
In Kish, the Holy Seven
Laid out the Foundations
A city they established
A fine dwelling place
But a Shepherd they withheld

Etana Jacob Jeshua
Jah Chosen Thirteenth
He who ascended to Heaven
Who consolidated all the lands

Holy Tafari stands forever,
As a testament to Jeshua
A living, breathing, healing
Life-Giving celebration of Christ

Return to me with all your heart and soul,
Obey the words of Jeshua of Nazareth
Fulfiller of the Law

I will deliver ye
From the power of enemies
Redeem ye from being ground under foot
By those who despise you

I will bring Thee
To the land of your fathers
Ye shall be redeemed
and ye shall multiply

I rejoice over Thee
Good Rasta people
I am Jah;
Ye are MY people

Illuminate My words in your works
I was tortured and nailed to a cross
Beaten, strangled and thrown in the ground
Rose again and again in the souls of men

Baptize by water, anoint by fire
ALL chosen Israelites
are anointed by Fire

He walks in my precepts
Observing my commandments
What I regard as upright and good

His Sons shall sit forever
On the throne of the Kingdom of Israel
I shall be with him, and I shall deliver him
From the power of his enemies
And from those who seek his life

He shall rule over His enemies
I shall set HIM at the top
He will long endure over His Kingdom
He and all His Sons after Him

The LORD shall pass his hand over the Earth
Yet a second time, Isaiah foretold
To gather the remnant of MY people
From Syria and Egypt, Europe and Ethiopia
From Israel and Palestine and
the Caribbean Islands

Jah established a sign of the covenant
He set His bow in the clouds;
A memorial of His covenant that
He made with humanity
and all that lives

He will cleanse them of their transgression
They spring up, but their days are as a shadow
Forever shall He be merciful
Consider the might of the LORD
Remember His wonderful deeds
Through awe of Him, may your spirit rejoice
In your time on this Earth
Hold no grudge against your brother

Disciples of His Majesty, seek Jah
To shine in, not on, your countenance
To glow from within, for
It is better to give than to receive

In the spirit of the new way
Heed the law from within
Ten affirmations of discipline;
Thank you, my brother James,
for the inspired translation:

I shall destroy idols
I shall honour one Creator
I shall preserve Thy Name
I shall preserve Jah Sabbath
I shall preserve Life
I shall preserve Love
I shall preserve Truth
I shall preserve goods
I shall honour my parents
I shall destroy jealousy

Jah is Peace

For even if I die
Jah will surely visit ye
And bring you from afar
Unto the Promised Land of your forefathers

From my days in Egypt,
and my days in Nazareth,
You think I learned so little?
I know you, Sons of Abraham

Your tender mercies and your killer smile
Lay down your weary rifles
Your bombs explode in your very soul
Shattering the peace and the lives of good people

When I saw that you killed My Father
and read of the methods you used
I remembered the pain as if two days ago
I am who I am, it is true

A servant of Jeshua at the dawn of the Third Day
A disciple of Jah at the quickening of time
Just Joseph, Jah Lifeguard, family and friends
Touched by the Fire, Jah music never ends

When a region of Gaia is trembling
Urantia is raped and Ethiopia pillaged
Send a peace offering to each troubled nation
Do all to prevent war wherever ye can

Send cannabinoids and flavinoids
Herbs, spices and oils,
Soymeal, vitamins and minerals
Sweet Herb and chocolate
Lemons and olives

Yet from each we can learn and be good hosts
As we would desire in a friendlier world

So hold back your tongues you friends of Belial
You know not your life then open not your mouth
How many times do I have to send this message?
Have you no Love of Life, no desire to see Jah?

Even if I die, I am just one more messenger

Outdoors under sky

You now have your freedom
To be true and be great

They will come from Harar
They will come from Afar
From Addis Ababa

From Paris and Tokyo
From Toronto my home
They will build by your side

Even while they laugh at me and my brothers
Struggling for our lives in the desert
They will come to you Messawa

The Sacred and the Profane
The Holy and the disdainers
They will be curious of your wonders
These strange and beautiful new monuments

Oh, they will come to you, so be prepared
Stop the lies right about - NOW!
There, you feel better, now get on with the carpet
The foundation and roof

The Son of the silent silence
The crown of the silent night
Glory of the Father, Virtue of the Mother
Three powers came forth from Him

Jah provide the Father, the Mother, and the Son:
Eternal Father, mind as One
Virginal Mother, presiding over heaven,
Ineffable, uninterpretable power
She gave birth to herself!
In agreement with the silent Father

O Jah, through Thy providence
Illuminate the meaning of Son
Bring forth from Thy bosom
Thy secret of the seven seals

For who now is worthy?
Who is ready for Zion
For Jah Holy Herb
Twenty two revelations

I and My Father are One
Our work here is quietly done
We burn Kaneh Bosm, smoke herb in peace
Anointing each new Sacred Son

Teach my words in these eight cities
Jamaica, Tafari, Messawa, Harar
Mecca and Medina
Nazareth and Jerusalem

Shashemene, send some to Messawa
To Tafari come strong
Twelve Tribes in Tafari
Inafricans live free

Then the Tribe of Gad shall come
with Patrick and the sons of Gad,
Shall be Eliasaph the son of Reuel,
Joseph shall receive these in Tafari
Before laying in the Valley of Kings

Ibnijah, Born on Chanuka
Let Ye Light shine forth
Those who know of Jeshua
Help save Africa today
and the World tomorrow

Those who know not the LORD
Take the time to read about Jesus
Jeshua of Nazareth, change darkness to Light

Only with this One can there be Unity;
Call Jah what you may, but YHSWH
The Nazarene, is that Name incarnate
Anointed Messiah, Christos, Saviour

We Thank You Eternally JESHUA
Unity is Yours
I Love You
